# 18 Ole Ole

Israel's song from 1985. The perfect little Friday night party song. High octane, tight skinned drums and simple but colourful dance routine.

I defy anyone who listens to this not to feel their heart rate increase just a little bit when the string players do their stuff in the final few bars of the song.

And, in case you didn't already know, the lead singer, Izhar Cohen, had previously won the Eurovision in 1978 with Abanibi. He didn't win this time around. That treat went to Norway.

I love it, I love it, I love it! This was one of my three choices for the Birmingham Bash disco!

It's a real feelgood song, upbeat, uptempo, up-and-attem! Nuff said.

It's interesting to me that Sweden are always accused of sending the same song to Eurovision each year, when actually it's Israel who are far more guilty of this.

One evergreen Wogan comment that holds true is that you just can't have an Israeli entry without sideways strutting and an altogether spin. This entry is a typical example of the art, and one of the best.

It's a joyous number, very well performed by Izhar Cohen (less so by the strangulated backing singer in the first chorus) and it was fully deserving of its place in the top five at the end of the evening.
